Well, it's April 14th, Medicare was trying to hold off claims until today to see if there would be a mid-month, midnight pass to keep the 21+% pay cut from going through. Congress did their bit (barely getting the votes to pass the temporary stay) and the senate has still not stepped up yet.
The senate wants to pass a long-term thing to hold off the pay cuts until October. That is still not very permanent, it just means that when the reduction (probably even bigger than this year's) goes through for next year, that things will still look as gloomy and unresolved.
Again, as I mentioned before, to be fair, I can see why it hasn't been able to get much traction. This temporary retraction of the pay cuts for Medicare is tied up in a bill that also includes extensions for COBRA benefits, unemployment benefits, and even some military money tasking. It is too hard to pass and resolve one issue, when a half dozen others are bystander contingents.
I wish I could find better news for you, but there just hasn't been any. Needless to say there is no good news at this point and there is no good recommendations for you to receive your Medicare payments. The hope still seems to be that something will happen by tomorrow, but the government being its usual, efficient self still feels like you'll be hanging in the wind now and for a while. You had better come up with some long-term strategies for how best to handle things in your office as far as how to best weather this storm. I don't think there are any easy answers, but you need a work plan for you and yours.
Additional Info?
The best, most current info I could find today was on the Wall Street Journal web site:
"Jobless-Benefits Measure Advances in Senate",
"Down to the Wire Again With Medicare Payment Cuts for Doctors"
I also found a good, new, Medicare news resource at: "Senate Bill Would Delay Medicare Physician Payment Cuts Until October 2010", Medicare Update (a blog - I also added them as a "follow" to our Twitter pages, so you can find additional information there.)
