Microsoft Security Essentials Causing eTHOMAS Issues

It appears that Microsoft did some updating and it is causing many of you problems.  Clients running Microsoft Security Essentials might have your eTHOMAS icon missing or you are getting a message when trying to start eTHOMAS saying "Can't Run eTHOMAS".  The problems seems to be that MS Security Essentials is quarantining your program as a virus.  The support lines are being swamped.  To get back up and running we have created a step-by-step document for you that will allow you to exclude eTHOMAS' eclient from the antivirus program.

Download the pdf here.

If you are still having problems after, please call in and we'll get to you as soon as possible.

Two Special Genius Post Oct 1st ICD-10 Calls

Genius Solutions is planning two special conference calls after the October 1st ICD-10 deadline to address up-to-the minute news, tips, and resolutions to any ICD-10 issues that our clients are experiencing after the October 1st deadline.

There are two dates scheduled, Tuesday 10/6/2015 and Friday 10/9/2015. Both calls will be at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time.

Genius Solutions eTHOMAS October 1st instructions for ICD-10

First

You should complete as much of your ICD-9 posting as soon as possible. This means all dates of service BEFORE today (October 1, 2015) should be entered and billed out in ICD-9. You will need to use the new ICD-10 codes for all of your billing with a date of today (Oct 1st), and moving forward.

Next

Once you've billed all of your ICD-9 claims out, and are ready to make ICD-10 the default setting for posting claims in eTHOMAS, you need to turn on the ICD-10 setting in eTHOMAS, which is called ICD10DEFAULT, then you can start entering your new claims using the ICD-10 diagnoses.

9/30/2015

If you've participated with us on this journey we know you've got this, because we've prepared you for it.  If you have prepared properly, tomorrow will just be another billing day - with 70,000+ more choices!  Congratulations, go ahead, pat yourself on the back, get another cup of coffee, and prepare to be paid!

*P.S. If you are trying to update today, be patient, many people are. Also, if you encounter any problems this is our #1 fix and reminder: if you seem to be unable to update, please restart your server, then right click on the "Update" icon and run as administrator and retry the update.

Michigan Blue Cross? You MUST sign up with Emdeon to continue receiving electronic remittance!

Per Blue Cross, providers must enroll with Emdeon in order to retrieve their BCC (Blue Cross Complete) vouchers and receive 835 transactions from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  On Sept. 14th, if you have NOT signed up with Emdeon, you will longer be able to receive or access remittance information through web-DENIS.

Effective September 10, 2015, providers must enroll with Emdeon to retrieve their BCC vouchers and receive 835 transactions from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

To enroll, visit emdeon.com (http://www.emdeon.com/resourcelibrary/#119) to locate forms and  information about the set up process. An enrollment guide (http://www.emdeon.com/resourcepdfs/Enrollment%20Guide.pdf) is available to walk you through the steps of completing the ERA Provider Setup Form for remittance files.

Be sure to have the following information available when you fill out the Emdeon form:

  • Section 2 - Vendor Name: Blue Cross Blue Shield MI
  • Section 2 - Submitter ID: 382069753
  • Section 3 - Receiver ID: 382069753
  • Section 3 - Distribution Method: Select TSO ID from the drop down menu
  • Section 3 - Distribution: I65V
  • Section 4 - Payer ID: 32002

You can submit completed forms by fax at (615) 885-3713, or e-mail at batchenrollment@emdeon.com. Per Blue Cross/Emdeon, the processing turnaround time is about 72 hours.

Per Blue Cross, "if you experience interruptions with receipt of 835s, contact Emdeon at (800) 451-5059". I'm guessing this means after Sept. 14th.

DrFirst Offers a Free, New Service to You - Our ehrTHOMAS Users!

DrFirst Enhanced Notification System For Undeliverable Prescriptions

DrFirst is proud to announce the release of our enhanced notification system for undeliverable prescriptions. As part of your eprescribing license DrFirst has provided a dedicated team to monitoring the successful transmission of all prescriptions sent through our system. This service is now being enhanced to provide a more robust offering that will deliver alerts in real-time to your phone. With this new offering we expect that it will greatly improve the experience of patients visiting your office if a script becomes undeliverable to the pharmacy.

When a script is sent and is accepted by the DrFirst system we attempt to deliver that prescription to the pharmacy chosen by the prescriber and patient. If, for some reason, it cannot be delivered electronically, then DrFirst attempts to fax the script on your behalf up to three times. If it continues to fail, then the DrFirst Support Desk attempts to resolve the issue prior to marking the script undeliverable and returning it to the sender. Unfortunately, this can take some time to complete. Typically the patient gets to the pharmacy prior to the completion of this routine, resulting in callbacks, unhappy patients, unhappy doctors, and unhappy staff-members.

Our new service will deliver alerts after a prescription fails to be delivered electronically AND is not successfully delivered after 3 fax attempts, which takes about 10 minutes from the time the eprescription is filed. This models our current manual process that is followed by our dedicated monitoring staff but provides you the information at a much faster pace. Prescribers can now receive alerts on their smartphone or desktop via the DrFirst Backline secure texting app. We expect this will support most office workflows and facilitate the best experience for prescribers and their patients.

To begin using our new system please speak with your ehrTHOMAS Implementation team to begin the implementation process. DrFirst is providing training webinars if you would like to gain a deeper understanding of the new feature and ask any questions you may have. Please let the ehrTHOMAS Implementation team know if you would like to take advantage of this advanced training.

ICD-10 Flexibilities

In case you somehow missed the e-mails or announcements...

In early July, the the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the American Medical Association (AMA) issued a joint statement about having some additional flexibility in the ICD-10 claims reporting process to help physicians with the transition, by making it just a tad easier.  Since then they've received and answered a lot of questions and have put together a document of important, need to know, information...  The new document is called:

"Clarifying Questions and Answers Related to the July 6, 2015 CMS/AMA Joint Announcement and Guidance Regarding ICD-10 Flexibilities"

CMS also reminds you to bookmark and regularly check their ICD-10 resources to help keep you in the know and in the flow for ICD-10.

ICD-10 Moving Forward

Is ICD-10 going to be delayed again?

The answer seems to be a hearty "No." The Senate just passed the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula bill this week. There were no "additional riders" or other mention of holds listed in there that would in any way indicate any further delay for ICD-10. This bill was the last hold-out people were waiting for, as this is where ICD-10 got surprisingly derailed last year. If you are not on board with ICD-10, you should be buying a ticket fast!

CMS is Being Loud and Proud Right Now

CMS is Loud about a meaningful use attestation date extension:

If you are an eligible professional, you now have until 11:59 pm ET on March 20, 2015, to attest to meaningful use for the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program for 2014.

This extension also allows those eligible professionals, who want to use their one "switch", to switch programs (from Medicare to Medicaid, or vice versa) for the 2014 until the end of March 20, 2015 also. After that time, eligible professionals will no longer be able to switch programs.

Remember Medicare eligible professionals must attest to meaningful use every year to both receive an incentive and to avoid a Medicare payment adjustment.

Also note, if necessary, that this Medicare extension doesn’t affect either the Medicaid EHR incentive or the PQRS date which has been extended to March 20, 2015.

And they are Proud about ICD-10 preparation:

Per CMS, they are ready for ICD-10 and prepared thinking they will be ready for ICD-10 on October 1. They claim they’ve had approximately 660 providers and billing companies who’ve submitted about 15,000 test claims.

“This successful week of testing continues to put us on course for successful implementation of this important initiative that better reflects modern practice of medicine by Oct. 1, 2015.”

Here is the link back to the CMS Attestation website.
