Shared Genius

"Practice solutions from one genius to another."

The Evolution of Shared Genius

Support accosted me and said, "We have these great questions that come up and awesome tips we'd like to share with everyone. Can you help us?" Of course I said, "Sure!" And here we are.

This is a new mini Genius Solutions Newsletter with Tips and Tricks from Support, to you, with love. Our plan is to put this out once a month, to start, and see how things go. If you have a question or tip you would like shared, please e-mail us and we'll take a look at it. This is SHARED GENIUS after all. :D

Prepping for next Week, we wanted to start with CMS-1500

Are you sending all or most of your claims electronically?
Did you know that most clearinghouses can accept most payers electronically (even secondary claims). Check with your clearinghouse before sending out all those paper claims.

Is Genius selling the new forms?
Yes, purchase the new forms from Genius Solutions. Call Genius Solutions to order the new forms; press 5 then 2 to order forms.

If I am re-billing an old date of service after April 1, 2014, do I use the new form?
The new form is effective on the date the claim is received by the payer. So, if the payer receives the claims after April 1, 2014 it should be on the new form regardless of the service date.

Can we use the old forms after April 1, 2014?
The NUCC has outlined that April 1, 2014 is the deadline to use the new claim form. That date is the day the claim was received by the payer.

CMS indicates a qualifier will appear in Item 17. Does Genius automatically populate these qualifiers (DQ, DK, DN)?
We have individual YouTube™ videos detailing Item 17 and the different qualifiers that can be used. You can watch the videos at http://www.youtube.com/geniussolutionsinc, click Playlists and watch the video relating to Item 17 under the eTHOMAS or dTHOMAS CMS-1500 (02-12) Form Information (depending upon your software version).

What date can we begin using the new form?
Once you are updated to version 9.4 or later of eTHOMAS or version 9.06 of dTHOMAS, you can begin using the new forms now.

Do we have to test with our clearinghouse with the new form?
Paper claims are not sent through a clearinghouse; therefore, no testing is needed.

Do we need to manually change the CMS-1500 version for all of our Financial Codes?
Yes. Change the CMS-1500 version for the Financial Codes you intend on sending on the new form.

Rejection FAQs

How do I correct the following rejection?
“Loop 2310C (Service Facility Location Name) is used. It should not be used when Loop 2010AA is used with the same information. Loop 2310C is defined in the guideline at position 2500”

This rejection means that the information that is reported in your facility (from the claim header) is the same information that is reported in your location/business name. If you are receiving this rejection you should remove the facility from the claim header and re-prepare the claims that were rejected.

Sincerely,
— Genius Solutions, Inc.
