For Chiropractors- How to help your offices now!

From Dr. Ted Arkfeld

Would you agree that overall, chiropractors are a pretty tough group of professionals? We have overcome being put in jail for practicing without a license, a concerted effort by the AMA to rid us from healthcare, and major discrepancies in the third-party reimbursements throughout the years. Today, we face the Coronavirus with all the stress, frustration, anxiety and reduction in patient numbers. Throughout all the years of our profession facing various hurdles, we have stuck together and survived. We will do the same to get through this crisis.
Start Your Own Economic Recovery
You can start your own economic recovery now by doing the following:
·         Call your chiropractic friends and offer words of encouragement to one another.  Pain does not know there is a pandemic in the world, patients still need chiropractic for symptomatic relief.
·         If you are still open and seeing patients, change the context of the conversation away from anything Coronavirus related.  I believe patients need and want to hear a positive conversation, one filled with hope.  This may be a good time to discuss some wins you have had in the office with difficult cases such as headaches, disc problems, sciatica, etc.
·         Enhance your education and training on documentation and coding.  You are losing revenue with incorrect coding in the following areas.

Two Friendly Tips From Our THOMAS Tips GoTo Gal, Kathleen

DO REMEMBER & USE your eTHOMAS Claim Filing Limit Report!
This report will help you manage your patient claims better, especially with so many unanswered questions about how COVID-19 will affect things. Use this link to refresh your knowledge of the report https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmXQhn8yeQA

DO REMEMBER to SUBMIT CLAIMS REGULARLY and OFTEN!
For best office practices – remember to submit patient claims on a regular basis and often. Holding claims is not a good plan for your office as insurance companies have not (for the most part) explained their emergency procedures. This includes reviewing rejected and edit claims and resubmitting them quickly. Stay on top of all your billing and resubmits to get paid and keep getting paid!

CMS Attestation Payment Deadline +

CMS just changed attestations- The new deadline is 4/30/20 & if you have not  submitted then, you  will automatically qualify for the "extreme and uncontrollable circumstances" policy receiving  a neutral payment adjustment for the 2021 MIPS payment year.

Medicare Updates for Telehealth and a Coronavirus Partner Virtual Toolkit During COVID-10 from President Trump

President Trump Expands Telehealth Benefits for Medicare Beneficiaries During COVID-19 Outbreak and CMS Coronavirus Partner Virtual Toolkit

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Effective for services starting March 6, 2020, and for the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, Medicare will make payment for Medicare telehealth services furnished to patients in broader circumstances.
  • These visits are considered the same as in-person visits and are paid at the same rate as regular, in-person visits.
  • Starting March 6, 2020, and for the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, Medicare will make payment for professional services furnished to beneficiaries in all areas of the country in all settings.
  • While they must generally travel to or be located in certain types of originating sites such as a physician’s office, skilled nursing facility or hospital for the visit, effective for services starting March 6, 2020, and for the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, Medicare will make payment for Medicare telehealth services furnished to beneficiaries in any healthcare facility and in their home.
  • The Medicare coinsurance and deductible would generally apply to these services. However, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) is providing flexibility for healthcare providers to reduce or waive cost-sharing for telehealth visits paid by federal healthcare programs.
  • To the extent the 1135 waiver requires an established relationship, HHS will not conduct audits to ensure that such a prior relationship existed for claims submitted during this public health emergency.
