eTHOMAS Tips & Tricks

Did you know that certain supplemental information may be sent in an electronic claim with eTHOMAS instead of sending the claim on paper?

This could potentially save you time by not having to send the claim on paper to the insurance carrier. When a claim is sent on paper, the processing time increases and the time it takes to process will depend upon each carrier.

In such cases, the claim would be sent electronically, while the supporting/supplemental documentation would be indicated within the Dc Indicator (Document Indicator) on the Claim. Information, as to how the information will be delivered to the carrier, will be electronically encoded on the claim by using the "Dc Type" (Document Type) letting the insurance company know what information is to be delivered and how it will be delivered. The insurance carrier should be able to tell you which indicator and what type "code" to use for each situation, as it arises.

If a claim needs additional supporting information and can be sent electronically, your ANSI file will include the following information:

Loop 2300 PWK of the ANSI file allows for certain supplemental paperwork to be indicated on the file. The ANSI specifications call for a document indicator (how the documentation is going to be sent to the insurance carrier) and a document type (what type of information is going to be sent to the insurance carrier). If your insurance company has requested information be sent in the 2300 PWK Loop, within the claim information, the “Dc Ind” (document indicator) is to be indicated as well as the “Dc Type” (document type). You may also access this information from the Post Charges screen.
