Genius Solutions eTHOMAS October 1st instructions for ICD-10

First

You should complete as much of your ICD-9 posting as soon as possible. This means all dates of service BEFORE today (October 1, 2015) should be entered and billed out in ICD-9. You will need to use the new ICD-10 codes for all of your billing with a date of today (Oct 1st), and moving forward.

Next

Once you've billed all of your ICD-9 claims out, and are ready to make ICD-10 the default setting for posting claims in eTHOMAS, you need to turn on the ICD-10 setting in eTHOMAS, which is called ICD10DEFAULT, then you can start entering your new claims using the ICD-10 diagnoses.

How do I set the new ICD-10 default?

To enable this setting, click on the Utility tab on the top of the THOMAS screen, then on the left, click Settings, then click on System Settings. Then click the plus sign to add a new setting. In the Code field type ICD10DEFAULT and put a 1 in the Value field and save the Code.

Note: You only have to do this on one computer and it will automatically set all of your computers to immediately begin using the ICD-10 code default for your new claims.

After

If you find you missed posting a claim from before Oct 1st, that needs to use the old ICD-9 codes, you will simply override the ICD-10 indicator manually for each new ICD-9 claim you need to create.

*Note: Claims entered before you turn on the ICD-10 setting are not affected and you will be able to re-bill out and handle them as usual. You will only need to override the setting for any new ICD-9 claims you enter.

How do I manually override the ICD-10 default to post an ICD-9 claim?

If after you turn on ICD10DEFAULT you find a claim prior to October 1 that needs ICD-9, simply uncheck the ICD10 box on that claim.

Moving Forward

After October 1, 2015 you will want to begin removing/changing over ICD-9 codes from in following places if you use these functions of THOMAS: Patient demographic information DX1 & DX2, Case Management, Patient Referrals, Procedure Codes, and a few reports.
