The Genius THOMAS program is now going to encrypt the files you send out to get your statements printed. This makes it difficult and unlikely that if someone came across one of those "statement files" that they would ever be able to get any information from it. When a file is encrypted, it is like putting a complicated, combination lock on it. If someone intercepts the file, they don't have the combination key, so they won't be able to read the data. Only someone with the key will be able to access and read the file.
Plus side - You just need to update and the patient information you send out for statements is now thousands of times more secure. Sweet! Check marks on HIPAA safety and patient security.
If you use Genius Automated Statements, once you update, you will prepare and send files as usual, you won't notice anything different. However, you will now will have a warm secure feeling, like a fuzzy blanket.
If you use a company other than Genius Automated Statements to mail out patient statements, outside of your office, then you will need to contact Genius Support after you update, so we can work with you and getting a key to you/your statement printer/mailers so they can access your newly super-secured patient statement files.
